5 Essential Make-Up "Must Have" Tools
April 10, 2012
There must be hundreds of varieties of makeup accessories & tools out there but for me, (and apparently some of the best makeup professionals in the industry), also do agree that out of the hundreds out there in the market, these 5 are essential make-up tools, any makeup enthusiast or professionals-alike should have:
1. SPONGES
Believe it or not, sponges either make or break your look. Surprising?!? Yes, it is indeed one of the most essential make up tools you must have with you, as it controls smooth application of your concealer and liquid foundation. You can purchase triangular shaped disposable ones (my preference because it's cheaper) or the washable ones like Sephora Precision Sponge.
May it be loose powder, pressed powder, blusher or highlighting powder --this is your essential tool. Choose one that's soft and if your budget allows you to, try the tapered ones with duo-fiber like Sigma F15. It lets you glide on into the creases of your T-zone easier and the fact that it is tapered, it highly disperses any high pigmented or mineralized powder.
3. EYELASH CURLER
I have a lot of friends who have chinky-eyes, due to the fact that we have Chinese blood running in our veins. I always tell them there's only one trick that works--failproof: CURL YOUR LASHES. It makes your eyes look WIDER and BRIGHTER. I have heard a lot of friends rave about the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler, that it's the best out there. It should be a lot more expensive than what I use (Sephora Gold Lash Curler, about $16). TIP: Give your eyelash curler a quick blast of warm air with your hairdryer (don't let it warm too much) and then curl your lashes--works perfectly!
4. EYE SHADOW BRUSH
Your makeup look will not be complete without a tint of color on your eyelids :) So make sure, you have a good eye shader brush in your make-up pouch! From subtle and smoky to uncompromisingly intense, you can create immaculate eyes that will have others cringe with envy. I currently use the Bodyshop © Eyeshadow brush. The hair is thicker and denser, so it picks up perfect amount of pigment, yet does not leave streaks.
5.) EYE LINER
So, the next time you drag your BFF to the shopping mall to do some shopping, keep in mind that you don't have to fill-up your shopping cart with all hundreds of makeup tools in the market. Sometimes, you'll realize that all you need is just 5.
Stay tuned for more make-up tips & techniques!
XOXO,
The Smoky Blue Palette
